Cyber Paintings are a series of digital prints on canvas made using a virtual reality application I created called Cyber Paint.

Cyber Paint is a creative tool and a space for self expression that uses data as material. It leverages familiar tools for mark making and accelerates them with the transformative potential of computation in VR. The app is uniquely medium-specific and allows for new kinds of mark making never before possible. As new paintings are made and the body of artwork develops over time, the software itself will also evolve, creating a feedback loop between myself as an artist, the artwork itself, the creative software tool that is Cyber Paint and medium of painting.

Painting is a very primary art form, and I wanted to transform that primal act with the unique potential of computation in VR. Anything that happens in the physical act of applying paint to a surface can be simulated realistically. But it's more interesting to go beyond the edges of what's possible with traditional paint. The app really isn't a painting simulator, despite its name, it's a laboratory for algorithmic mark making.
